Sukkot (Tabernacles)
What is the feast of Sukkot (Tabernacles)?
The Feast of Sukkot is week-long biblical convocation that commemorates Yahweh's protection and provision of the Israelites after their exodus from Egypt.
"Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord. On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it. For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. It is a sacred[a] assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it." - Leviticus 23: 33-36
Did Yahshua celebrate Sukkot?
The answer is yes! He did! He kept all of the sacred feasts, setting the example for us to follow.
"But when the Jewish Festival of Tabernacles was near, Yahshua’s brothers said to him, “Leave Galilee and go to Judea, so that your disciples there may see the works you do[...] On the last and greatest day of the festival, Yahshua stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”" - John 7:2-4 & John 7:37-38
This chapter (John 7) describes Yahshua initially not joining his disciples at the festival, but eventually does and teaches there.
